To enhance camouflage effects, the U.S. Army adopted a camouflage pattern printed on both sides of the fabric—green on one side and tan on the other—in 1942. However, the fabric was not designed to be reversible. The chest has a large vertical pleated pocket, and the elbows are reinforced with double layers. A gas flap, designed to improve sealing against poison gas infiltration, is located under the front placket, all placed on the green side. The tan side is plain.
