Despu?s se introduce en la epopeya de los semidioses Hunahp? e Ixbalanqu?, los cuales se convertir?n en el Sol y la Luna al dar t?rmino a su gesta; a continuaci?n el pueblo quich? se extiende, sometiendo a sus vecinos.Una tercera parte ofrece una descripci?n de las dinast?as y los dioses, as? como una cr?nica m?s hist?rica sobre el origen y la estructura de los pueblos ind?genas de Guatemala. Tambi?n se refieren los sucesos recientes que les afectaron, incluida la conquista por los espa?oles hacia 1524. En cualquier caso, el Popol Vuh ofrece un indudable inter?s literario, tanto por su rica imaginer?a de leyenda como por ser una obra de creaci?n que contempla la cultura preexistente y la colonizadora. El Popol Vuh que hoy conocemos fue escrito tras la Conquista en lengua quich? con graf?a castellana por ind?genas cristianizados.Algunos estudiosos indican que uno de los posibles autores del Popol Vuh es Diego Reinoso. Y se cree que fue redactado entre 1554 y 1558, en la antigua capital de los quich?s, Gumarkaaj (Utatl?n), hoy Santa Cruz del Quich?, o en Chuil? (Chichicastenango), pueblo en que vivieron los sobrevivientes de la nobleza quich? tras ser derrotada por Pedro de Alvarado.En 1701 lleg? a Chichicastenango el sacerdote dominico Francisco Jim?nez, quien aprendi? varios idiomas ind?genas y transcribi? el Manuscrito del Popol Vuh al espa?ol.En 1829 los dominicos fueron expulsados del pa?s durante el gobierno liberal de Francisco Moraz?n, y sus archivos pasaron a la Universidad de San Carlos. En 1854 un m?dico austriaco residente en Guatemala, Carl Scherzer, tuvo acceso al Manuscrito de Jim?nez, y lo public? en 1857 en Viena. Ese mismo a?o el abate franc?s Charles Etienne Brasseur de Bourbourg (1814-1874), exc?ntrico y erudito, llev? el Manuscrito a Par?s y lo public? en franc?s en 1861. A la muerte de Brasseur el Manuscrito pas? a manos de Alphonse Pinart, quien luego lo vendi? por 10.000 francos.En 1887 fue adquirido en una subasta por Edward E.
