日本代购-■サイズ：長さ約90cm ■素材：箒草、虎竹、籐、虎竹染め紐、天然藍染め紐 ■原産国：日本製・国産見直されてきた懐かしの座敷箒 電気掃除機全盛の現代となり、座敷箒や棕櫚箒といった昔ながらのほうきは活躍の場を奪われ、製造する職人さんも減少の一途をたどっています。そんな中、昔ながらの箒の美しさを見直し新たに国産材料にこだわった箒作りを模索する動きもでてきています。節電や、環境意識の高まりにも後押しされ、音が静かで使い勝手のよい座敷箒が見直されているのです。 箒の柄と言えば虎竹や かって座敷箒は国内に大きな産地がいつくかあって大量に製造されていました。昔の箒職人さんが口々に言います「箒の柄と言えば虎竹や。」まだ国鉄だった頃の貨物列車に満載されて、あるいは10tトラックに積み込まれて日本唯一の虎竹の里から全国各地の箒職人さんの元に虎竹が次々に運ばれて言った時代があったのです。 日本で唯一 土佐の虎斑竹（とらふだけ）「虎斑竹（虎竹）」は淡竹（ハチク）の仲間に分類され、高知県須崎市安和の虎竹の里でのみ、稈の表面に虎模様が浮かぶ不思議な竹です。この模様は、幹に付着した寄生菌や潮風の作用によるとの学説もありますが、科学的には未だ解明されていません。実際に各地方に移植を試みましたが、何故か模様が付く事はありませんでした。明治44年、当時日本最高の植物学者達が絶滅寸前の虎斑竹の保護のために、建白書を時の政府に提出しました。これが今日の天然記念物条例発布の導火線となり、天然記念物保存法が発令され虎斑竹はその第一号の指定を受けたのです。海外メディアも取材に来た「ミラクルバンブー」左の写真が、自然に生えている状態の虎竹です。この虎竹をガスバーナーで炙り、竹自身から出る油分で拭き上げると右の写真のように虎模様がはっきりと浮かび上がります。この珍しい虎竹（Tiger Bamboo）を取材するために海外メディアまでもが虎竹の里を訪れ神秘的な虎竹に「ミラクル！」を連発されていました。竹職人達の想いが繋ぐ虎斑竹竹は秋から1月下旬までが伐採のシーズンです。虎竹もこの期間に一年分をまとめて伐ります。竹職人達は急勾配の山道を運搬機と共に分け入り、一日中重たく長い竹を切り運び出すのです。そして、大きさや品質で選別したのち、ガスバーナーによる油抜き、矯め直しという製竹作業を行います。一本一本の個性を最大限に生かすために、熟練した職人の手で竹を炙り、まっすぐに矯正されるのです。こうして製竹された虎竹が、様々な竹製品へと生まれ変わります。 座敷箒の歴史 東京箒 今では想像もできないですが、かって箒は千葉や栃木など関東一円でも生産されており、集荷されて東京箒として全国に出荷されていたのです。（写真は約50年前に使われていたシールです。） 貨物列車での輸送 座敷箒には昔から柄には虎竹が多用されていました。当時の竹虎では貨物列車に積み込み竹を運ぶため、大変だったそうです。汽車は時間通りに発車します、それまでに貨車一台分に積み込む虎竹を用意するのに竹虎でも24時間3交代制での操業が続いていました。 虎竹の人気 当時の虎竹の人気ぶりを示す竹を昔の職人さんが取り出して来て見せてくれました。虎竹に似せるため、竹を硫酸で焼いて模様をつけたものまであったと言います。 箒の衰退 箒と言えば家庭の必需品でしたので全国各地で箒草の栽培が盛んに行われ、産地があり職人さんも沢山おられて大量に製造されていたものなのです。しかし、長く続いた箒作りの歴史も電気掃除機の普及などにより急速に衰退していきます。 日本唯一の虎竹と箒職人 関東で作られていた箒の技術を、当時は箒と言えばシュロ箒が主流だった京都に持ち込み京都で箒製造の工房を立ち上げられたのが柳川さんのお父さん。10人ほどの職人さんと早朝から夜遅くまで毎日毎日箒づくりに明け暮れていたと言います。 柳川さんの箒は、使いやすく丈夫と言う事で評判をよび、作っても作っても製造が間に合わないほどだったと言います。 箒の柄と言えば虎竹や 箒職人のお家に生まれ、小さい頃から箒作りに関わってこられた柳川さんが教えてくれました、そんな座敷箒の柄に使われていたのが何を隠そう日本唯一の虎竹だったのです。「箒の柄と言えば虎竹や。」職人さんこんな嬉しい言葉を久しぶりに聞いた気がして思わず顔がほころびました。しかし、箒の製造が下火になり、この工場でも製造されなくなって40数年の月日が流れています。国鉄の貨車や、大型トラックで関西に運ばれていった虎竹を実際に使って仕事されていた職人さんとの出会いは自分にとってはかけがえのないもの。「実は、40数年前に仕入れてそのままになっとる虎竹あるんや」耳を疑います。 待ちよってくれた 柳川さんの先代は、根っからの職人で倉庫に沢山の材料が積まれていないと気がすまない方だったようです。虎竹の里から、はるばる運ばれてきた竹は貨物列車の時代には駅で馬車の荷台に積みかえられてまた、大型トラックになってからは工場の前の通りに横付けされて倉庫に山積みされていたのです。だから箒作りを止められた後も虎竹の在庫はそのまま残っていたといいます。 待ってれていた。まるで自分がくるのを待ってくれていたかのよう・・・。40数年前の当社の竹職人たちの息遣いが聞こえてくるような竹たち。きっと祖父や父が担いだかもしれない竹立ち。熱いものがこみあげてきて、力いっぱい握りこぶしを作り唇をギュッ、ギュッと何度も噛んで涙を堪えるのに精一杯。自分たちの虎竹は、こんなに素晴らしい竹なんだ。改めてこの里にしか育たない不思議な虎模様の竹に感じ入ります。「箒の柄と言えば虎竹や」この言葉が耳から離れません。長い間、途絶えていたこの箒を今一度、この国に復活させたい、と思います。志を同じくする方たちと手を携えて微力ながら自分のできること、今だから出来る虎竹箒を形にしてみました。 座敷帚の穂先 虎竹座敷箒（大）（小）は箒草をあわせて製造してから穂先を切り揃えています。生活様式の変化にともなって現在では手箒も人気ですが、手箒は穂先が短いため、密度がありつつソフトで使いやすくする工夫で先端切らずに自然の草そのままを先端そろえて製作されます。 あたたかい気持ち お母さんや、おばあさんがお掃除していたのを想い出す。懐かしい、ちょっと温かい気持ちになる休日のお掃除です。先端には紐が通してあり、壁などにかけられるようになっています。 サイズ 天然素材を手作りしておりますので、形や色目、大きさが写真と若干違う場合があります。 ※保管方法 直射日光を避けて風通しの良い場所に必ず吊して保管してください。座敷箒先端部分の汚れが気になる場合には水洗いもできますが風通しの良い日陰で十分乾燥させてください。湿気はカビの原因となる事もあります。洗剤や塩水は使わないようにしてください。 ※使用の際には座敷箒の先端に力がかかりずきないようにフローリングや畳を軽くなでるように掃いてください。 ※大切にご愛用頂いておりましても穂先は曲がってきます。吊り下げて保管していると自然になおる場合もありますがクセが大きい時には水やぬるま湯に浸した後に新聞紙に包み重しをして乾かすと真っ直ぐになります。 ※穂先の傷みがひどい場合には数ミリ単位で切ってください。穂先は根元にいくほど硬くなりますので座敷箒の次には板の間、次は土間、最後は庭箒というように短くなるにしたがって順番にお使いいただけます。竹虎の工場でも、かつては室内用に使われていた箒が短くなって作業場用として使われています。
